Yes, all diabetics should have annual neuropathy screening starting at diagnosis for type 2 diabetes and five years after diagnosis for type 1 diabetes. Standard nerve conduction studies may be normal in pure small fiber neuropathy, requiring skin biopsy or specialized autonomic testing for diagnosis.
