People with diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of kidney disease should have kidney function tested at least once a year, including both blood creatinine and urine albumin tests. Patients already diagnosed with CKD may need testing every three to six months depending on their stage and rate of progression. Individuals taking long-term medications known to affect the kidneys, such as certain anti-inflammatory drugs, should also have periodic monitoring.
