Yes, the calcium score test is very safe. It uses low-dose CT with a radiation exposure of approximately 1 mSv, comparable to a mammogram or about four months of natural background radiation. No contrast dye is injected, eliminating the risks of allergic reactions or kidney effects associated with contrast agents. No IV line is needed, and no medications are administered. The scan is entirely non-invasive, making it one of the simplest and safest cardiac tests available for asymptomatic screening.
