Our nurses select appropriate dressing materials and techniques based on the wound type, location, and healing stage.

Yes, suture and staple removal is one of our most commonly requested wound care services. Our nurses carry sterile removal kits and follow standard clinical protocols for timing and technique. The timing of removal depends on the wound location and your surgeon's instructions, typically ranging from 7 days for facial sutures to 10 to 14 days for trunk and extremity wounds. The nurse will assess wound healing adequacy before removal and apply steri-strips if additional support is needed.

Our nurses are experienced in managing various surgical drain types including Jackson-Pratt (JP) drains, Blake drains, Penrose drains, and chest drain site care after removal. Drain management includes emptying and measuring output, assessing fluid colour and consistency, cleaning the insertion site, securing the drain to prevent accidental dislodgement, and documenting output trends. When the surgeon authorises drain removal based on output criteria, our nurses can remove the drain at home following aseptic technique.

We carry a comprehensive range of wound dressing materials selected based on current evidence-based wound care guidelines. These include sterile gauze and non-adherent pads, foam dressings, alginate dressings for highly exudative wounds, hydrocolloid dressings, silver-impregnated antimicrobial dressings, honey-based dressings, transparent film dressings, and silicone-based wound contact layers. The nurse selects the most appropriate dressing based on wound characteristics including exudate level, wound bed condition, and location.

Visit frequency depends on wound type, severity, and healing stage. Fresh surgical wounds typically require dressing changes every 2 to 3 days initially, then less frequently as healing progresses. Infected wounds may need daily assessment and dressing. Diabetic ulcers and pressure sores often require visits 2 to 3 times per week with frequency adjusted based on healing response. Your nurse will recommend an optimal schedule and adjust it as the wound progresses through healing stages.

At every visit, our nurses systematically assess for signs of wound infection including increasing redness extending beyond the wound edges, warmth around the wound, swelling, increased pain or tenderness, purulent or malodorous discharge, wound breakdown or dehiscence, and systemic signs such as fever. If infection is suspected, the nurse escalates to a physician for assessment and potential antibiotic prescription, and may collect a wound swab for culture and sensitivity testing to guide targeted antibiotic therapy.

Absolutely. Surgeon coordination is a core part of our wound care service. After each visit, detailed clinical notes including wound measurements, photographs, and any concerns are documented and can be shared with your surgeon. If the wound is not healing as expected, shows signs of complication, or requires a change in management approach, our nurse communicates directly with the surgical team. For DCDC patients, this coordination happens seamlessly within our integrated medical record system.

Most major insurance providers in the UAE cover home wound care when prescribed by a physician, particularly for post-surgical wound management and chronic wound treatment. Coverage typically requires a physician's prescription specifying the wound type and recommended visit frequency. Our team handles pre-authorisation and insurance documentation.
